Karwar: The scrutiny of the nomination papers filed by candidates for the Lok Sabha election was done at the office of the District Returning office in Karwar on Friday.

During the scrutiny of 27 sets of nomination papers filed by 17 candidates, three sets of nomination papers were rejected. This would mean that two candidates would be out of the fray.

The nomination paper of Independent candidate Pramod Mohan Madgaonkar was rejected as the name of four proposers out of the ten mentioned by him in the papers were not found in the voters' list.

Shiv Sena candidate Krishnoji Patil's papers were also rejected as he had mentioned that he had been contesting from a national party and had given only one proposer's name. But Shiv Sena is not a national party in Karnataka and the number of proposers needed was ten. So, his papers were rejected, said District Returning Officer Dr K Harishkumar.

Even independent candidate Balkrishna Patil's one set of nomination paper was rejected due to insufficient names of proposers. However, the other two sets of nomination papers filed by him were accepted.
