3 inter-state thieves held, valuables seized in Mangaluru

Mangaluru: Sleuths from the Mangaluru West police station on Tuesday arrested three inter-state thieves and recovered items stolen by them.

According to the announcement made on Wednesday night, the accused are Anil Kumar, 28, from Chikkamagaluru, and Veerendra Shetty, 42, and Abdul Raheem, both from Mangaluru.

Gold weighing 136 gram and a television stolen from two houses in Koyilandy, and a television and bronze vessels stolen from a house in Kulshekar, Mangaluru — all valued at Rs 4.40 lakh — have been recovered from the trio.

Police said all three accused are habitual offenders. Anil has cases registered against him at police stations in Karwar, Udupi and Kozhikode while Veerendra faces theft charges at Surathkal, Bantwal and Manjeshwar, and an attempt-to-murder case in Konaje. Raheem has previously been booked in two attempt-to- murder and ganja peddling cases in various police stations across Mangaluru. The Goonda Act was also invoked against him in 2017.
