2019, most happening year for Indian Navy: Mahesh Singh

Karwar: A ‘Beating Retreat’ ceremony was conducted in a grand manner at the Seabird naval base here on Wednesday as part of Indian Navy Day. Honour was paid to the Navy flag and the tricolour on the occasion.

The ceremony was held in the premises of the residence of Flag Officer Commanding Karnataka Naval Area Rear Admiral Mahesh Singh. It witnessed spectacular performances by the Navy band.

Warships INS Tillanchang, INS Makar and INS Koswari were decorated with lights and a fire show was also held.


Speaking on the occasion, Mahesh Singh said that the year 2019 was the most happening year for the Indian Navy. The Navy played a major role in the Balakot operation and flood relief works. “The Indian Navy drew the attention of the world through its successful operations. Therefore, many countries are coming forward to have joint exercises with the Indian Navy,” he said with pride.

He explained that the Indian Navy Day is celebrated on December 4 in commemoration of Operation Trident, the attack launched by the Indian Navy on Karachi harbour during 1971’s Indo-Pakistan war. 

MLA Roopali Naik, Principal District & Sessions Judge Vipula Pujari, Senior Civil Judge T Govindayya, Kaiga Power Generating Station Director Satyanarayan, Konkan Railway Regional Director B B Nikam, officers of the Navy and others were present at the programme.
