Karwar: Two Subedars working in the armoury of Seabird Naval base 'INS Vajrakosha' suffered snake bite on Monday night. While one of them succumbed to the snake bite, the other one is undergoing treatment at 'INHS Patanjali' Hospital ICU.
The deceased has been identified as Baljeet Darshan Singh (38), a native of Amritsar in Punjab. Baljeet was given first aid at the hospital in the premises of 'INS Vajrakosha' and was later shifted to the Navy Hospital at Araga near Karwar. But he did not respond to the treatment and died.
Another Subedar Sukhmindar Singh (33) is under treatment.
The two Subedars were bitten by a snake while they were patrolling near Hattikeri in Ankola taluk at around 10:30 pm on Monday. An investigation in this regard is being carried out, said Ankola police which is carrying out the investigation.
Inaugurated in 2015, INS Vajrakosha comes under the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO). Weapons, missiles and technical equipment needed in the naval base are stored here. The area is in the middle of the forest and entry of public to this place is totally prohibited.
