Yellapur: Two school students lost their lives after they fell into a rainwater harvesting pit at Balagar village in Yellapur taluk on 13th July, Saturday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Sahana Bhat (10), and Rashmi Patgar of Balagar village. 

Sources said that the duo after finishing their half -day school on Saturday had been to a forest area near their school at Siddarapal, where it is believed that they might have fallen into the pit while playing.

As the duo didn't return home till the late evening, their parents along with villagers started searching for them. They also made around into forest area near the school to find the girls. Unfortunately, their bodies were found floating in the pit, which was dug by villagers.

On receiving the information, police personnel rushed to the spot and conducted the necessary investigation. The bodies were handed over to family members after post mortem.

A case has been registered in Yallapur Police station.
