2 rapists get jail in separate cases

Karwar: The district court sentenced two rapists to jail and slapped fine on them in connection with two cases of rape on minors.

In the first case, the accused was sent to seven years jail and fined Rs 25,000.

The accused was identified as Ganesh Eshwar Gowda of Malali village in Sirsi taluk. He had raped a 15-year-old girl near her house at Ben in the year 2017. He raped her for the second time by kidnapping and taking her to his grandmother’s place. 

A case in this connection was lodged with Sirsi Rural police station limits as per the provisions of the POCSO Act. Principal District & Sessions Court judge T G Shivashankaregowda heard the case and pronounced the verdict. The court ordered to provide Rs 25,000 compensation to the survivor.

In the second case, a man who kidnapped a girl while she was on her way to college, and raped her at a village in Siddapur taluk, was sentenced to two years jail and fined Rs 17,500.

The accused was identified as Sunil Mahadev Naik of Harsikatta. A case against him was also registered under POCSO Act. In this case, the court ordered to provide compensation of Rs 15,000 to the rape survivor.

Special Public Prosecutor Subhash Kairanna argued on behalf of the government in both cases.
