Karwar: Two candidates withdrew their nomination papers from the Lok Sabha elections from Uttara Kannada Lok Sabha constituency on Monday. With this, 13 candidates are remaining in the fray.
Independent candidates Rajshekhar Belligatti of Dandeli and Naimur Rehmaan Jailor of Sirsi withdrew their papers.
As many as 17 aspirants including two women had filed 27 sets of nomination papers to contest the Lok Sabha election. Of them, papers of two aspirants were rejected and two candidates withdrew.
Ultimately, one candidate of a national party, one from a regional party, four from registered political parties and six independents are contesting the elections.
Later, a meeting to provide election symbols to candidates was held at the DC office on Monday. Election Observer Naveen S L, District Returning Officer K Harishkumar, District SVEEP Committee Chairman Mohammed Roshan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Nagraj Singrer and others attended the meeting.
A few candidates and a few supporters of candidates were present there. Later, election symbols were distributed.
