Karwar: “Not every professional can get the experience that a press reporter can get. An idea or a report that appears in the media has the power to become an important development scheme or project in future,” said MLA Roopali Naik.
Speaking after inaugurating Press Day programme and a health camp organised for press persons by District Headquarters Working Journalists’ Union at a school in Chittakula on Monday, MLA Roopali Naik appreciated the efforts of the union in distributing school bags to 78 students of that school with the help of donors.
Naik said that such moves indirectly give suggestions to the government. Earlier in one such programme, shoes were given to students and today, this has become an ambitious programme of the government. Similarly, distributing free school bags might become a project of the government.
Deputy Commissioner K Harishkumar said that journalism has the responsibility of monitoring the working of democracy in the country where everyone is equal. The field of journalism is creative as well as challenging. On several occasion, journalists are even assaulted. Hence, society must ensure security as well as service security to them. Even the government must think about it.
Speaking about Doctors’ Day, he said that even doctors are humans. Expecting 100% perfection from them on all occasion is not correct. However, they must try to excel in their work. He also assured the support of the administration in the positive work initiated by doctors.
Chittakula gram panchayat president Raju Tandel, Satyasai Seva Samithi district unit president Ramdas Achari, District Information Officer Himanthraju and others were present. Union president T B Harikanth passed introductory remark. Achyutkumar Yellapur and Ganesh Hegde compered and Subhash Dhoopadhonda proposed the vote of thanks.
As many as 137 people were given free treatment during the free health camp organised by the Satyasai Seva Samithi in their Sai Dhanvantri mobile health unit.
Tagore Award
On the occasion, journalists Narayan Hegde, P K Chapgaonkar and TV channel cameraman Dinesh were presented the Tagore Award.
Prashant Mahale, S S Sandeep Sagar, Vasudev Gowda, Guruprasad Hegde and Devraj Naik were awarded the ‘Yuva Sadhaka Patrakartha Award’.
Also, Shrikanth Shanbhag, the editor of ‘Kanada Vruttha’, the only paper of the State which is being published from more than 100 years, was felicitated.
