Yellapur: Due to the greed for power of disqualified MLAs, the State is witnessing the by-polls for 15 assembly constituencies, said former minister and Haliyal MLA R V Deshpande.

He noted this while speaking during the public meeting organised at Devi ground in the town prior to the nomination filing by Congress candidate Bheemanna Naik in Yellapur on Thursday.

The MLA said, the former speaker of assembly Ramesh Kumar had disqualified the Yellapur MLA Shivaram Hebbar and 14 others. Even the Supreme Court has accepted the same.

The tagline of ‘disqualified’ will be always there with
all those MLAs who resigned
to the party for power, he chided.

He also said, the BJP has released the funds with the backdrop of by-polls to lure the public. But, the released funds should be used for the developmental works, he said.

Deshpande also said, party workers are the strength of the Congress and they will ensure victory of the party candidate in the coming by-polls. Under the leadership of Siddaramaiah, the coalition government in the State had taken many developmental works, which will be a plus point for the party candidate to seek votes. There is no doubt over the victory of the party in the elections, he assured.

Speaking on the occasion, Congress party candidate Bheemanna Naik said, voters should teach a befitting lesson to the disqualified MLAs who had cheated the party for power. Party workers should pay door to door visits and brief the spoilsport played by the disqualified MLAs, he appealed.

“We will face the by-polls on the basis of developmental works conducted during the administration of the Siddaramaiah-led government in the State”, he added.

Zilla Panchayat President Jayashree Moger, Yellapur Block Congress President D N Gavnkar, Mundagod Block Congress President Krishna Hiralli, ZP former president Ramanand Nayak, and party leaders were present.
