Karwar: Activists and students staged a protest by blocking vehicle movement at Majali in Karwar taluk on the border on Saturday, demanding to open Goan borders for free movement of people from other States.

Student leader Raghu Naik, who spoke on the occasion, served a deadline of September 1 to open the Goa border for vehicular movement. He warned that they will stage another stern protest on September 5, if the demand was not met.

He said, extracting Rs 2,000 from travellers in the guise of Covid test was not right, and the movement of vehicles must be allowed like pre-Covid times.

Goa-Kankon Deputy Collector Rajesh Prabhu, who received a memorandum from the protesters said, they had imposed restrictions on the border as per Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) guidelines.
