Karwar: “There is a conducive atmosphere to set up industries in Uttara Kannada district. But those industries which can adversely affect the environment or the lives of the people in the district will not get approvals,” said Deputy Commissioner K Harishkumar.

Speaking at a single-window committee meeting in Karwar recently, DC said that industries must follow all the ‘green’ rules and thereby maintain balance in the environment.

He clarified that they will not encourage any project which can cause harm to the environment.

“Applications requesting granting of land for setting up industrial areas must be submitted online. The government will take steps to approve the land based on demand and availability,” he said and made it clear that the land will not be purchased before applications were received.

Regarding the need for construction of a compound wall around Kumta industrial area from public safety point of view, the DC asked the joint director of the District Industrial Centre to prepare a blueprint in that regard and submit a proposal to the government seeking approval.

Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Roshan, who is also the vice-president of the committee, Joint Director of District Industrial Centre P Nagesh, KSSIDC Assistant General Manager Mallappa, Industrial Area Development Board Manager Kanbur, Karnataka Handicraft Development Corporation Manager Shrinivas Shetty and others are present.
