37 teams carrying out health check-up of people in U-K dist
Karwar: Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Roshan has stated that all precautionary steps have been taken to check the spread of Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19) in Uttara Kannada district. More than 37 teams had been formed to carry out check-ups in various parts of the district.
Speaking to presspersons in Karwar on Monday, he said that in hyper-sensitive areas of the district, teams were visiting door-to-door conducting health check-up. Such health check-up exercises have been conducted in Gokarna and Tibetan Colony in Mundgod which attracts lot of foreign tourists. Over 5,000 people have been subjected to health check-up here.
“Over 1,000 N-95 face masks will be given to every taluk and primary health centre. Over 10,000 three-layered masks will also be distributed. To cater to emergency situations, the Navy Base has given 100 beds to the district hospital. The Health Department is also alert and there is no need for people to panic,” he said.
KFD vaccine
The ZP CEO said that more people are being vaccinated against Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) or monkey fever in co-ordination with various departments. In the last three months, more than 10,000 people have been vaccinated against KFD. There was a target to vaccinate another 5,000 people before March last week. This apart, 48,000 bottles of DMP oil, a tick repellant, have been distributed in vulnerable areas.
Lesser tourists
Meanwhile, the fear of Coronavirus has affected tourism in the district. “For the last 15 days, there is a sharp drop in the number of tourists coming to Gokarna and Murdeshwar. This has affected taxi/rickshaw drivers, hotels, resorts and others dependent on tourism,” said Manjunath, a taxi driver.
Mosquito-free Karwar
Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Roshan said that the presence of mosquito in Karwar has increased for the last two years. Therefore, they have set a target to make Karwar Mosquito-free.
Water-stagnation spots will be identified in Karwar with the help of special teams that will be formed for the purpose and steps will be taken to prevent water-stagnation which leads to mosquito-breeding, he added.
