BENGALURU: Some teachers have wreaked havoc in evaluating SSLC answer scripts, it has now come to light.

A student who had failed with 0 marks in mathematics actually deserved 71, a revaluation has revealed.

The number of students whose marks improved during revaluation is higher than usual, and runs into thousands.

It is not just parents and students who are shocked, but even education officials are wondering how teachers could have been so callous when their assessment has the power to make or mar young lives.

According to information available with Express, the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) had received about 6,500 applications for revaluation and retotalling of answer scripts.

“In one case, an evaluator had awarded 0 to a student who got 71 after revaluation,” a board source said.

Scandalised officials are talking about disciplining errant teachers. “This is no human error but a criminal act,” the source said.

Errant evaluators can be issued notices and penalised. A senior official said, “We haven’t decided what to do but we will take disciplinary action.”
