Bhatkal: A young cleric from Murdeshwar in the taluk, Maulana Adnan Khan Nadvi, 23, was killed in a road accident near Mysore on the early hours of Wednesday.

According to reports, Maulana Adnan  left for Mysore via Mangalore from Murdeshwar in the afternoon in a two-wheeler after hosting the Republic Day celebrations at Madrasa Tanveer-Ul-Islam, during which he met with a road accident. It is learned that he was killed in a collision with a vehicle at around 2.30 AM near Nagamandal on Mandya-Bangalore highway.

It is said that he was going to Mysore to attend his friend's wedding. When he did not get a bus ticket, he left on his bike. It is also said, he had to take the Mysore road while passing Arsikere, but he probably might have missed the road and entered Mandya. He had reached Mandya-Bangalore highway and was on the same route when he met with an accident near Nagamandal.

An auto rickshaw was also found near the spot where his bike was found lying and it was suspected that the rickshaw and the bike have collided, but locals said that he would have been hit by a large vehicle that escaped after the accident. The matter is being investigated.

Maulana Adnan was serving as Imam at Mohiuddin Masjid in Murdeshwar, as well as was a teacher in Madrasa Tanveer-ul-Islam. It is learned that Maulana Adnan was also an anchor for the popular YouTube video news channel MB News of Murdeshwar.

As soon as the accident was reported, his relatives and friends from Murdeshwar and Mysore rushed to the spot. The body has been shifted to Nagmandal Government Hospital for postmortem. The body is expected to arrive in Murdeshwar by 7 PM.
