Mangaluru: A woman ended her life by hanging, after giving food laced with sleeping pills to her two children and mother, at Shakthinagara in Mangaluru.

The deceased is Prameela (38), a resident of KHB Colony in Shaktinagara. The woman's one-and-half-year-old girl child died, while her mother Shashikala (60) and son Ashis (15) are out of danger.

It is said that Prameela's husband Ravi Shetty was working in a garage in Kuloor. She had given food laced with sleeping pills to her family members on Saturday noon. After all the family members slept, she ended her life, said the police.

Shashikala who woke up late in the evening, went to the first floor to call Prameela for tea, and the incident came to light. The reason for Prameela's extreme step is not known. Kankanady Town Police have registered a case.
