Udupi: To ensure the availability of the Covid-19 vaccine, the health department has plans to add another 40 health sub-centres to the existing centres where vaccination is being done.
At present, the vaccination is done at all 61 primary health centres in rural villages across the district.
Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha told media persons that the situation to equip centres with required technology is inevitable. One reason is to ensure more and more people under the eligibility criteria will receive the vaccination, he added.
District vaccination officer Dr M G Ram said the session sites at 40 centres will begin based on the availability of vaccine vials. There are altogether 185 health sub-centres in the district that can accommodate the vaccination process.
He said people can show their Aadhaar cards and get themselves vaccinated. There is no need for registration, he added.
There is an availability of 2,200 vials of Covishield and 200 vials of Covaxin in the district as of April 5. He said that attempts will be made to cover maximum health centres for vaccination whenever the vaccine vials are delivered to the district, he added.
