Bhatkal: In a district-wide crackdown on drunk driving, Uttara Kannada police seized a total of 16 two-wheelers after their riders were found driving under the influence of alcohol and at high speeds. Of these, 13 vehicles were seized in Kumta and 3 in Murdeshwar.
According to police sources, the rising number of two-wheeler accidents in the region is largely attributed to reckless driving under the influence of alcohol. "During our checks, we intercepted several speeding vehicles and found that 13 riders had consumed alcohol," said Kumta Circle Police Inspector (CPI) Yogesh K.M.
In a similar operation, Murdeshwar police seized three bikes from riders who were found to be intoxicated while riding. Cases have been registered against all the offenders.
Authorities have confirmed that such enforcement drives will continue in the coming days to improve road safety and reduce accident rates across the district.
