Karwar: In the wake of spread of coronavirus across the world and a few cases being reported in the India, the Uttara Kannada district administration, which receives tourists from abroad, has sounded a high alert. It has deployed teams to conduct a survey at holy town, Gokarna.
In a release, deputy commissioner K Harish Kumar stated that 37 teams have been deployed to conduct a survey in Gokarna and surrounding villages and 16 teams have been deployed at the Tibetan colony in Mundgod.
“We have identified mundagod Tibetan colony and Gokarna as clusters. As per the cluster containment plan, we will conduct a survey of houses in these clusters tomorrow.” he said.
He said the health department has provided training on conducting survey to detect coronavirus infected or suspected cases in Kumta and Mundgod on Thursday. “These teams have been provided with logistic support and other required infrastructure to carry out the survey, “DC, Uttara kannada told reporters.
He said screenings will be done on people who are mainly the primary and secondary sources. “The primary source is the person who visited abroad and the secondary source is the person who was in contact with the primary source,” he elaborated.
He appealed to such people to inform officials about their recent foreign visit, so that the screening can be conducted on them free of cost.
He said this attempt is to boost confidence among citizens. When asked whether the screening will done in Sirsi where the Marikamba fair is being held, he said there is no such emergency and as per the government guidelines, only suspected cases have to be managed.
