Udupi (DHNS): A wo-man and her daughter drowned in a stone quarry pit filled with water at Saibarakatte in Brahmavar on Saturday.

The deceased are Chandrika alias Kavitha Veeresh, aged 28 years, and Likhitha, aged three years, hailing from Bhadravathi. Kavitha and her two daughters had been to quarry pit to wash clothes. When the two daughters were playing near the pit, the younger one slipped into the pit. To rescue the daughter, she immediately jumped into the pit. But she too drowned with the child as she did not know swimming. The elder daughter informed about the tragedy to others. By the time they rushed to the spot, both had breathed their last.
