Dubai: A murder case involving a man from Udupi district has come to light in Sharjah, nearly two months after he was reportedly killed.
The deceased has been identified as Prakash Kundar, a native of Kundapur who had been living and working in the United Arab Emirates for nearly two decades. His wife, Tina, and their minor son are also reportedly missing, adding another dimension to the investigation.
According to media reports, Prakash’s family became concerned after losing contact with him around July 20. His brother reportedly received a text message from him instead of the voice messages he normally used to communicate. When the brother asked him to call, communication was suddenly cut off.
The family subsequently contacted Prakash’s employer. They were reportedly told that he had travelled to India. However, when he failed to reach his native place, relatives became suspicious and approached authorities in Sharjah, following which a missing-person investigation was initiated.
The investigation eventually led police to Prakash’s car, where his remains were reportedly discovered. Reports said he had suffered stab injuries and that his body had been dismembered. His remains were reportedly found in the boot of the car, and DNA testing was subsequently used to confirm his identity. The exact circumstances and sequence of the killing remain under investigation.
Prakash was reportedly employed at Sharjah Airport, while his wife worked as a teacher. The couple had been married for around 20 years and had a son studying in Class 10. Family members have said they were unaware of any serious dispute between the couple. Prakash had reportedly visited India in December last year before returning to Sharjah.
The disappearance of Tina and their son has become a key aspect of the investigation. Their present whereabouts are not known. Some reports have suggested that they may have travelled to India after leaving the UAE. Police are examining whether Tina had any connection with the killing or whether she and her son disappeared for other reasons.
The motive for the killing has also not been established. Investigators are expected to examine Prakash’s movements before his disappearance, his communications, forensic evidence and other circumstances surrounding the case. The whereabouts of his wife and son are another important question that investigators are seeking to resolve.
Prakash’s relatives in Udupi are awaiting completion of the legal and investigative procedures in the UAE before his mortal remains can be brought back to India.
