Udupi: As many as 13 people were injured in an accident that took place between a bus and truck at Muloor near Sunni centre on Friday, July 8.

The injured are bus passengers Vinod Anchan (36), Sangeetha Manchakal (26), Pooja Adamaru (19), Swathi Adamaru (18), Sandyalatha Shankarapura (26), Reshma Mudarangady (26), Shammilatha Shankarapura (33), Praveen Mudarangady (36), Chayashree Paniyuru (18), Rajkumar Padubidri (35), Nireeksha Yermal (17), Mohammed Asif (26) and the truck driver.

As per the sources, the bus had stopped for the passengers to get down when the truck rammed it from behind. The rear side of the bus and front side of the truck were damaged. Eyewitnesses blamed the truck driver's recklessness as the reason for the accident. If sources are to be believed, locals said that the driver might have applied the brakes but the truck did not stop as it was very old. They also said that contractors are using old trucks and tippers for highway work and the police should stop this practice.

Traffic on NH 66 was disrupted due to the accident and the police who arrived at the accident spot, helped to restore the traffic movement.

It is learnt that the truck was carrying a cement mixing machine belonging to Navayuga company which is involved in the highway work.

Kaup police have registered a case in this regard.
