Kumta: A car and a lorry collided near Kumta on Monday, resulting in the death of a man and his wife who were travelling in the car. Their 3 year old child is seriously injured in the accident.

The family hailing from Sirsi was on their way from Ankola to Sirsi when the accident occurred at Bargi NH 66 under Gokaran police station limit.

The deceased has been identified as Madhav Naik (37) and his wife Ranjita Naik (30).

According to sources, Madhav Naik was dead on the spot while his wife succumbed on the way to Manipal hospital.

The impact of the collision was such that the car turned into a mangled heap of iron.

The National highway was blocked soon after the accident, but police rushed to the spot and cleared the road.

A case has been registered in Gokaran police station
