“The programme intends to bring an attitudinal change among all stakeholders who have developed stigma towards the third sex or transgenders as they indulge in beggary and sex work. It will be an interactive programme with Mayor Kavitha Sanil, SP Bhushan G Borase and ACP (Mangaluru south sub-division) Shruthi N S”, said Ms. Veena B K, HOD, BSW, Roshni Nilaya, while addressing the associated media persons on Monday.

"When all other days are being observed, we decided to observe Transgenders' Day.”, said Ms. Violet Pereira, a journalist and founder life trustee of Parivarthan.

She further said that only 10% of their total population i.e. 150 out of 1500, have dared to declare themselves as transgender.

Srinidhi, a treasurer of the trust and Sandhya, secretary, claimed that there are threats to transgenders' lives from disgruntled community members, for refusing to be a part of the racket that involves beggary and sex work.

They charged that 50 anti-social elements have been summoned from Ballari only to restrain them.
