Bhatkal: A tragic incident unfolded this evening at the renowned tourist destination of Murdeshwar Beach, where four schoolgirls aged 15 and 16 drowned in the Arabian Sea. The body of one girl has been recovered, while the search for three others continues. Three additional girls were rescued and rushed to a nearby private hospital in critical condition.
According to sources, approximately 50 students from Murarji Desai School, Kotthur, in Mulbagal, Kolar District, had arrived in Murdeshwar for an excursion on Tuesday. Among them, ten girls entered the sea to play with the waves but were caught by the powerful currents. Local fishermen intervened and managed to save four of them, who were later hospitalized in critical condition.
Police sources confirmed that the recovered body has been identified as Sharvanti, daughter of Gopalappa. The missing girls have been identified as Deeksha, Lavanya, and Lipika, while the rescued girls currently undergoing treatment are Yashodha, Viksana, and Lipika.
A case has been registered at Murdeshwar Police Station, and investigations are ongoing.
