Mangaluru: Despite the extension of the nationwide lockdown till May 3, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), struggling with poor financial health started the collection of toll charges from vehicles here on Tuesday.
The toll gates at Talapady, Surathkal, Sastan, Hejamadi and Bantwal became operational in Dakshina Kannada district.
Meanwhile, the vehicles that passed through Sastan tollgate in Udupi district struggled to pass through as only two gates were open and there was considerable movement of vehicles between 0700 to 1100 hrs.
