YADGIR: Three women labourers were killed and 8 others injured when a Bolero pickup carrying agricultural workers crashed into an electricity pole near Madnal village in Shahapur taluk of Yadgir district on Sunday. The injured are reported to be in critical condition.
According to sources, the labourers had gone to farms in and around Madnal early in the morning to undertake work related to clearing cotton crop residue. After completing their day's work, they were returning home in the Bolero when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The pickup veered off the road and crashed into an electricity pole at high speed. The impact was severe, leaving three women labourers dead on the spot.
The deceased have been identified as Bhagyashree (35), Satyamma (30) and Honnigamma (18). The injured were shifted to the government hospital in Shahapur for treatment.
Personnel from the Bheemarayanagudi Police Station reached the spot and conducted an inspection. Police have begun an investigation into the accident. PSI Devindr Reddy reportedly visited the scene and took stock of the situation.
The deaths of the three women labourers have left their families devastated, while a pall of gloom descended on Madnal and the surrounding areas.
