Mangaluru: Three fishermen died and six others went missing after a fishing boat with 14 people on board capsized in the sea about 43 nautical miles of the old port of Mangaluru.

Coast guard in a tweet on Sunday said that the fishing boat named Rabha from Beypore in Kozhikode in Kerala was hit by a ship resulting in the mishap.

The boat had ventured into fishing on Sunday. Those in the boat were from West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. Five of them managed to swim ashore. The Indian Coast Guard has deployed ICG ships and aircraft in its mission to search for the missing fishermen.

A ship collided with a fishing boat with 14 fishermen on board due to heavy rain and bad weather. As a result of the accident, three fishermen died while six others have been rescued.

The exact identification of the fishermen onboard is being ascertained and it is reported that the fishermen were not from Karnataka but from other States.
