Bantwal: An 800 year old temple coming under Vittal police station limits was robbed on 8th July. The thieves gained entry into the temple and decamped with silver jewellery worth lakhs adorned on the idol and emptied the cash stored in two donation boxes kept inside.

It is estimated that 17.5 kg of silver jewellery worth more than 6 lakhs and the cash amount is yet to be ascertained. Forensic experts and canine squad were rushed to the spot for investigation. According to the forensic experts, the robbers have executed the robbery with clear planning and precision and have left no trace of evidence behind. Further investigation are being carried  by obtaining the CCTV images installed in the various parts of the temple
