Bhatkal: Sadi Maulana Shabbir Gangolli(34 yrs) said, “I am a citizen of India and I have faith in Indian judiciary. I am proud of our judicial system that finally gave justice to me in false terror cases”, here on 11th April, Tuesday.
Maulana Shabbir Gangolli alias Shabbir Bhatkal alias Hussain Shabbir Meheruddin Gangolli of the coastal town Bhatkal was arrested in December 30, 2008 by the Pune Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in fake currency seizure and terror cases.
Addressing the press, he said that he was jailed for nine years and was tortured very badly by the police. He told the reporters in Bhatkal town that those days were like hell and though he had not committed any crime, he had to go through a lot.
“The police arrested me on false charges and sent me to jail. Finally, I got justice and the court acquitted me,” he said.
He was acquitted by the Additional District and Sessions Court of Mangaluru on 10th April, Monday after spending nine years in jail.
"The police used to torture me a lot and even to my private parts”, he said. “I get goosebumps even if I think about those days now. I was fixed in cases that I was not connected”, he added.
He further said, “Many Muslim youths are in jail on false cases. One day, they will also get justice like me. I have faith in the judicial system of our country”.
