Hyderabad: All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Digvijay Singh accused police in Telangana of setting up a bogus pro-Islamic State website to arrest young Muslims.
He said, "Telangana police has set up a bogus ISIS site which is radicalising Muslim Youths and encouraging them to become ISIS modules. It was on their information that MP police arrested accused who were responsible for the bomb blast in train in Shajapur District of MP. It also resulted in Saifullaha encounter in Kanpur the same day."
Further talking about the same, he said, "The issue is whether Telangana police should be trapping Muslim youths in becoming ISIS modules by posting inflammatory information?"
Digvijay Singh also took a jab on K.T. Rama Rao (KCR) and said, "Is It Ethical ? Is it Moral ? Has KCR authorised Telangana police to trap Muslim Youths and encourage them to join ISIS?"
Singh also felt that the head of the local government in Telangana, KT Rama Rao, should step down if he authorised the police to set the booby trap.
Telangana's Director General of Police Anurag Sharma said the allegations were unfounded and will lower the image of police.
"Unfounded allegations from a senior responsible leader will lower the morale and image of Police engaged in fighting anti-national forces," Sharma tweeted in reply.
Telangana chief minster K Chandra Shekarr’s daughter and TRS MP K. Kavitha retweeted Singh’s post, calling it “ridiculous, baseless. Not expected of a senior politician”.
Although the government believes that there are no active IS modules working in India, the police have arrested about 80 people who may have been radicalised by the Middle East-based jihadist organisation.
