Take measures to combat drinking water scarcity: District Secretary Munish Moudgil

Karwar: District In-charge Secretary Munish Moudgil has said, with the day by day increase in temperature in the district, the officials concerned have to initiate necessary measures to face the drinking water scarcity which may arise during summer. 

He noted this while speaking during the district-level officials of various departments held at Deputy Commissioner’s office in the City on Wednesday.

He directed the tahsildars of respective taluks to call a tender for the supply of water through tankers in the areas, which may likely hit by water scarcity in the summer and work efficiently to facilitate the people in such areas.

He asked the officials concerned to create awareness among the people and clear the doubts of beneficiaries regarding the distribution of compensation to the ‘B’ class houses, which were damaged in the floods. Necessary action must be taken to solve the problems pertaining to the compensation, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Mohammed Roshan said, various works have been undertaken in the district, in terms to solve all the problems related to the supply of drinking water.

Permanent measures

The works which are worth below Rs five lakh will be completed within a month. Along with this, measures will also be taken to implement permanent drinking water projects, he added.

Discussions were also held on the pending payments of housing from the State government and clearance of dues worth Rs 32 crores from the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Corporation Limited to the district. 

Md Roshan briefed about the outsourced payment issues pertaining to the Youth Empowerment & Sports Department and biodiversity management committees that
have been formed in all the gram panchayats across the district. 

Deputy Commissioner K Harish Kumar said, last year, drinking water was supplied to 480 hamlets in the district through water tankers.

This year, focus would be given for providing drinking water through rented private borewell in the possible areas, he added.

Superintendent of Police Shivaprakash Devaraju, Additional Deputy Commissioner Nagaraj Singrer, and officials were present on the occasion.
