Karwar: Sukri Bommagowda, the nightangle of Halakki Vokkaliga tribes recieved the Padma Shri Award from President Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi.

Sukri bomma gowda, popularly known as SUKRAJJI, hails from Badageri of Ankola taluk in Uttara Kannada district. Her fight against liqour and scheduled tribes status to her community, and singing of thousands of folk songs have not only made her popular but also brought her the fourth highest civilian award of the country.
