The State government will credit the subsidy amount due to milk producers to their bank accounts by this month-end, according to Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister of State for Fisheries, Youth Empowerment and Sports.

Addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone for a new dairy and administrative complex building of the Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Union Ltd. (DKMUL) at Uppoor in Udupi district on Sunday, he said that the amount was due for five months from November 2016 to March 2017. The government has hiked the subsidy amount by Rs. 5 per litre.

The dairy and the complex would be built at an estimated cost of Rs. 92 crore. The dairy had a capacity to process 2.5 lakh litres.

The Minister said that when the bridge at Parari being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 10 crore was completed, it would provide direct road connectivity between Manipal and Uppoor.

Raviraj Hegde, president, DKMUL, said that the dairy would be made functional before November 2018.

Stressing on cow protection, Shoba Karandlaje, MP, said that the dairy would help Dakshina Kannada and Udupi to achieve self-sufficiency in milk production.
