Student dies of drowning in a river in Bhatkal

Bhatkal: A 17-Year-Old student lost his life after drowning in a river in Mogli Honda region in Bhatkal on Thursday evening.

The deceased is identified as Raveez s/o Riyaz Karimi.

It is reported that Raveez and his family members had been to the farm in Mughali Honda to pluck the coconuts from the trees, during which some coconuts fell into a river surrounded by the farm. Raveez was trying to pick some of the coconuts that fell into the river during which his foot slipped, which caused him to drown, it is said. 

Sources informed that Raveez knew swimming, though the water level was quite at the height, he failed to swim for long to save himself. Few youths who were present at the incident site tried to rescue Raveez, but until then he had breathed his last. The body was then fished out of the river and shifted to Bhatkal government hospital.

About Raveez, it is gathered that he had obtained primary education in Dubai, and completed his matric in Shams school in Bhatkal, and was currently a student of 1st PU in Anand Ashram college in Bhatkal.

The body was brought to his residence at Maghdoom colony in Bhatkal after post mortem. The funerals will be conducted on Friday morning at 10 AM.

A case has been registered in Bhatkal rural police station.
