Bhatkal: More than 20 stray dogs were caught in Mundalli village of Bhatkal by a team of dog catchers from Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu.
The team was engaged to capture the strays by the Mundalli gram panchayat. The team was called after an old woman died and three others were injured after a dog attack at Mundalli recently, creating panic among the villagers.
Meanwhile, when the stray dogs were being taken in a vehicle to be released on Sagar Road via Gulmi, the villagers waylaid the vehicle assuming that the dogs were being released in the vicinity of their village.
Bhatkal Circle Police Inspector K L Ganesh rushed to the spot and controlled the situation. The villagers withdrew the protest only after CPI informed that dogs were brought to veterinary hospital, which is in Gulmi to be sterilized and would be released in Sagar Road forest.
