State to develop model tourist spots in Uttara Kannada

Karwar: The Tourism Department has prepared a project for development of model tourist spots in Uttara Kannada district and submitted the same to the State government. The project includes installing the ropeway (cable car) at Magod Falls, in Yellapur taluk.

The falls, about 20 km from Yellapur town, is one of the important fall in Karnataka.

The falls has been created by failing of Bedti River from about 650 metre height. Many tourists visit the falls. The installation of a ropeway will attract more visitors.

In the budget of 2016-17, the State government has earmarked Rs 10 crore for development of model tourist spots in Uttara Kannada, Bidar and Chikkaballapur districts.

According the Tourist Department has identified some tourist spots in the district and framed a project of Rs 10 crore and submitted the proposal to the government two months ago.

A proposal has been submitted for installation of ropeway from Forest Department guest house, besides the Magod Falls the hill in the front.

For this, Rs 2.25 crore will be used in the first phase. The other projects are: Rs 30 lakh for development of Mirjan Forest in Kumta taluk, Rs 40 lakh for installation of name boards of tourists spots, Rs 20 lakh for development of Jog Falls near Siddapur, Rs 1.5 crore for development of Karwar’s Tagore beach and taluk’s Majali Lake, installation of inspection bungalow at Maradigudda in Haliyal, Rs 1.75 crore for renovation of bungalow near Jai Hind Saw Mill, in Dandeli, and for providing basic facilities near Pishelingeshwar Temple in Kalaginakoppa village, Rs 30 lakh for providing basic facilities at Kannika Parameshwar temple in Honnavar, Rs 30 lakh for development of Aresami lake and Devi Vana, Rs 20 lakh for development of Shejjeshwar temple in Karwar.

First in South India

There are hopes of getting approval for the installation of the ropeway at Magod Falls in Yellapur taluk. This would be the first ropeway in South India.

As soon as the approval is got, a detailed project report (DPR) should be sent to the Central office, informed Tourism Incharge assistant director Gopal Krishna Bekal to reports.
