Soon Karwar port will be turned​ into major one: Dinesh Singh

Karwar: "Ports play an important role in the economic development of our country and act as a link for development. Karwar port is a developing port and in days to come, it will be developed into a major port in the country", Senior Commander Dinesh Singh said.

Speaking, after inaugurating the 54th National Maritime Day, organised in Ports Department premises in Karwar on Wednesday, he said country's revenue generation will improve if imports and exports through ports go on smoothly. In days to come, the picture of Karwar will change and it will grow as a major City.

Karwar Port & Inland Transport Department In-charge Director Captain C Swamy, said ports are important in transporting goods to other countries. Almost 95% of import and export go on through ports only. When compared to other and other transport means, water transport saves money and time and is also environment-friendly.

On the occasion, private shipping companies which have performed well in various departments, were given prizes. Best Steamer Agent award was shared by Atlantic Shipping Pvt Ltd and Marine Links Karwar. Best Overall Performance In Liquid Storage Tank Terminal was bagged by Tropicana Liquid Storage Pvt Ltd.

Indian Oil Corporation Terminal Manager S P Kashyap, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board Regional Officer Sugandh Kuri, Port Officer Captain Arun Goankar and others were present.
