Bhatkal: Including three children, six persons tested positive for Covid-19 in the district on Wednesday. All of them had returned from Maharashtra a week ago and were in institutional quarantine.
P-2284, a 12-year-old girl, P-2291, a 26-year-old man, P-2397, a 24-year-old man, P-2398, a 52-year-old man, P-2399, a nine-year-old boy, and P-2400, a four-year-old boy were infected by the virus.
Siddapur taluk has entered the list of Covid-19 hit taluks in the district after a person from the taluk, returned to his native from Maharashtra along with his family tested positive for the infection.
P-2284, P-2291, P-2400, and P-2399 are from Yellapur taluk and P-2397 is from Honnavar taluk. There are 35 active cases in the district. All of them are symptomatic and are recovering, said officials concerned.
‘Don’t panic’
Speaking to media persons in Siddapur, Sirsi Assistant Commissioner Ishwar Ullagaddi said, P-2398 had returned to the taluk along with his wife and three children with a valid pass from Thane in Maharashtra on May 19 in a private vehicle. They were stopped at Nilekani check post in Sirsi and sent for a health check-up. Later, they were shifted to the institutional quarantine centre set up at Rani Chennamma Residential School at Kavanchur. On Wednesday, one among them had tested positive and test results of four others are awaited, he added.
Ishwar said, people of the taluk need not panic as neither the person tested positive nor his family had entered the taluk.
A total of 149 people had returned to the taluk from other States after the lockdown and all of them have been quarantined. Of which, 129 had returned from Maharashtra, three each from Gujarat, New Delhi, and Kerala, and 13 from Telangana, he informed.
So far, 39 people have tested negative and they have been sent for home quarantine, wherein, the first report of 56 people and the second
report of 110 people is awaited, he said.
The department concerned is ensuring proper facilities for the people who are in quarantine centres. Meanwhile, the public should also understand their responsibility and follow the precautionary measures without fail, said Tahsildar Manjula Bhajantri.
