Sirsi: A farmer died after a bear attacked him in Sundalli forest area coming under Devanallli Gram Panchayat limits in Sirsi taluk on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Omkar Padmanabh Jain (59). He was attacked by the bear when he had been to the forest near his house to collect Garcinia gummigutta (Uppage).

The local people said that they rushed to the forests on hearing his cry for help. The bear had attacked him when he attempted to climb a tree. As he was injured severely, he succumbed to injuries. His body was found below the tree.
