Sirsi: At a time when the countrymen are trying hard to accept the new mode of transactions, a farmer's society in Uttara Kannada district has been making cashless transactions for more than four years.
The Totgar's Cooperative Sale Society Limited (TSS) in Sirsi will soon move into a new building. District Minister R V Deshpande will inaugurate the new supermarket of the society on December 24. The Society acts as a trading platform to arecanut, black pepper and cardamom growers. It’s also famous for cashless transactions.
The society has all necessary household items, vehicle accessories,animal husbandry and petroleum products. Its members use special coupons instead of cash for purchase. The society was established in 1923 and is popularly known as TSS.
It also organizes cultural festivals and exhibitions of agriculture and farming equipment. “The society has uniqueness in its nature as it shares 75 per cent of its profits to the members in many ways like incentives, bonus and others. It is also extending assistance to the agriculturists, where the experts go to the fields and interact with the farmers.
The society is maintaining the sowing records of farmers attached to it,” said a senior member of the society.
