Shiroor: Students on a school bus had a narrow escape after their bus collided with a car on National Highway 66 near Shiroor village coming under the Byndoor police station limits in Kundapur taluk of Udupi district on Tuesday.

According to the Byndoor police, the bus, belonging to Green Valley National School, was on its way from Shiroor to Bhatkal, while the car was bound for Udupi from Bhatkal when the collision took place near a curve just after the Sakandagundi Bridge.

The accident took place at around 3 p.m. The school bus was taking the children back home. There were about 25 students on the bus, the police said.

The bus suffered a small damage but all the schoolchildren were safe. The children were then shifted to another bus of the same school and taken to their houses, the police said.

Four occupants of the car sustained minor injuries in the accident and were shifted to a hospital in Kundapur for treatment.

A case has been registered at the Byndoor police station. Investigation is on, the police said.

This comes on the heels of an accident in which a private bus hit a school van resulting in the death of eight students of Don Bosco School at Trasi village on National Highway 66 coming under Gangolli police station limits in Kundapur taluk on June 21.

In another incident on June 27, an empty school bus got stuck in slush near the Beedinagudde Bridge in Udupi city, when, according to the driver of the school bus, he veered to the left to give way to another private school bus.
