SDPI threatens to move court over arrests of 5 PFI leaders

Mangaluru: The SDPI district president Aboobakar Kulai condemned the raids on the SDPI and PFI offices at the Nellikai Road near Bundar in the wee hours on Thursday.

Aboobakar told reporters that NIA officials broke the lock and entered the building. They also broke the glass door.

The team left the office in shambles by throwing the equipment all over. Besides documents, a file containing photos of the programmes organised by the SDPI, a laptop and two hard disks had been seized.

When office-bearers reached the spot, the NIA sleuths displayed a warrant to search the PFI office.

“But officials have searched the SDPI office,” he said.

Aboobakar alleged that raids were carried out at the behest of Sangh Pariwar and BJP. He threatened to move the court if the five PFI leaders arrested by the NIA were not released within 24 hours.

“The BJP-led state and the Central governments have been misusing the NIA to conduct targeted raids on those who criticise the government. The raids were carried out to deflect attention from the real issues and conceal failures of the government,” he charged.
