Schools accused of RTE Act violations

Jain Heritage School in Kempapura, Hebbal that has admitted 27 students under the RTE reserved quota this year has be accused of demanding Rs 35,000 as mess fess.

A receipt given by the school mentions the requirement “food” under its “miscellaneous” category and a charge of Rs 35,000 is levied under it.

B N Yogananda, RTE Students and Parents' Association general secretary said that a number of parents from the school had approached him with the complaint.     

Meanwhile, the Karnataka State Children's Rights Protection Commission (KSCRPC) has sought action against Apollo National Public School, in Chowdeshwari Nagar of Laggere on charges of demanding Rs 18,000 from students selected from RTE reserved quota and for discriminating these students.

A letter to the Block Education Officer, Bengaluru South and Deputy Director, Department of Public Instruction, Bengaluru, states that the school has violated children's right to education and has sought an enquiry. The commission has called the stakeholders to be present for the inquiry on July 8 at 11am with required documents at its office in Krishi Bhavan, Nrupathunga Road, a press release states.
