Mangaluru: The Supreme Court has directed Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate the death of a medical student in Mangaluru.

The headless body of Rohit Radhakrishnan was found near a bush on the road leading to Tannirbhavi Beach on March 23, 2014.

The CBI has been directed to submit the status report before the High Court every two months. The CBI, Bengaluru, is expected to conclude the investigation as early as possible.

Radhakrishnan had written a letter to the chief minister appealing for an impartial enquiry into the death of his son by a credible agency, such as CBI, on February 2015.

Since there was no response from government, the father had filed a writ petition before the High Court of Karnataka praying that the investigation be handed over to the CBI on April 2016.

In November 3, the Supreme Court had observed that except obtaining a further expert opinion from the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute, no further investigation was carried out.

On the contrary, an abated charge-sheet was filed against the deceased for the offence under Sections 279, 304(A) IPC read with Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
