Karwar: The protest against the construction of the retaining wall in Karwar under the Sagarmala project entered the third in Karwar on Wednesday.
All of a sudden, the area where the fishermen catch the fish casting their ‘Endi’ nets was filled with mud and stones at night and this irked the fishermen. They gathered near the sea in the morning and raised slogans against the government. Later, they gathered at the DC office and staged a dharna.
Sankranti celebration
Meanwhile, the fishermen could not celebrate Sankranti at their homes as they were busy staging dharna. Therefore, fishing women cleaned the place where they were staging dharna and drew rangoli to give a festive feel. They wrote ‘Save Karwar Beach’ below that rangoli to draw the attention of the government. Later, they exchanged Sankranti sweets at the dharna site itself. They even offered the sweets to the policemen who were deputed to look after security at the site of the dharna.
