He lays foundation stone for construction of Honnavar bus stand
Karwar: Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi, who also holds the Transport portfolio, expressed surprise over collection of additional Rs nine from every passenger travelling in buses passing through the toll plazas in Uttara Kannada district.
Speaking after laying the foundation stone for the construction of the new bus stand at Honnavar on Saturday, Savadi said that he would discuss the issue of toll collection with the Union Inland Transport & PWD Minister on March 2.
"All the four State transport corporations of the State are under loss. Unnecessary expenses will be cut down to set this right. The services of honest officials of the department will be sought to check revenue leakage," he said.
Poor works
On the occasion, MLA Roopali Naik brought to his notice that the Ankola bus stand works were of sub-standard quality. Responding to this, he said that a meeting will soon be called (either on March 3, 4 or 5th) to discuss this matter. She said that after the collection of toll had begun, a passenger travelling just three kilometre was also forced to pay Rs 9 extra. She urged to bring down this amount.
