Karwar: The protest being staged by fishermen community against the expansion of Karwar port under the Sagarmala project entered the seventh day on Sunday.

Even on Sunday, hundreds of fishermen staged a dharna near the deputy commissioner’s office in Karwar and raised slogans against the government.

Members of Karnataka Raitha Prantha Sangha of Hassan too participated in the dharna extending support to the fishermen. Speaking on behalf of the Sangha, Prasannakumar said that the fishermen had been protesting since the last one week but the government was not bothered to respond.

“It is being said that 30 fishermen representatives would be called for a meeting in Bengaluru to discuss the issue. But instead, it is better if the authorities come down to Karwar so that they can get a clear picture of the situation. Hundreds of fishermen would be benefitted if justice is delivered to the fishermen,” he said.
