Mangaluru: The officers of Customs Department, seized foreign currency notes of about 10 nations including Euros, US Dollars, Russian Rubles, Pound Sterling, etc. which were equivalent to ₹69.14 lakh, in one of the major detentions made at Mangaluru International Airport on 18th March Saturday.
The commissioner Dr. M Subramanyam, said in a press release that they were able to identify and intercept the Pax based upon an input received stating a passenger who was going to depart to Dubai via Air India Express flight IX-383, would attempt to smuggle foreign currency.
Assorted foreign currency notes were found secreted in socks and concealed inside the jeans trousers were found upon thorough examination, in the baggage of the passenger. The passenger was arrested at the airport on 18th March, Saturday.
The passenger has been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days after being produced before the principal civil judge (senior division) and chief judicial magistrate.
