Bhatkal: A bike rider was killed after a KSRTC bus rammed into his motorcycle in Honnavar, about 45 km from here. The deceased has been identified as Venkatesh Gopalakrishna Vaidya, a resident of Navilgon village in Honnavar, who worked as a cook.

The accident occurred late on Thursday night near Haldipur Agrahara in Honnavar taluk.

According to sources, Venkatesh was travelling from his home towards Haldipur on Thursday night when his motorcycle collided head-on with an oncoming bus.

Sources said Venkatesh was not wearing a helmet. He sustained severe head injuries after being thrown onto the road and succumbed on the spot due to excessive bleeding.

On receiving information, Honnavar police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to the mortuary of the Honnavar taluk hospital.

A case has been registered at Honnavar Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
