Mangaluru: Mayor Premanand Shetty said that various agencies, while taking up development works in the city, should ensure that the damage caused to roads and drains are restored, after their completion.
He was chairing a review meeting for 15 wards, from ward number 16 to 30, at the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Council hall on Monday.
“Works related to Karnataka Urban Development and Coastal Environment Management Project (KUDCEMP), Mescom and GAIL Gas Limited, are in progress in the city. It is their responsibility to restore the area after the work. GAIL authorities should take up restoration work on their own. In case they fail to restore the road and other public places after the work, the city corporation will take up the restoration work, and the bill for the same will be sent to the company,” the mayor said.
Corporators brought to the notice of the mayor, that several works, for which contracts have been awarded by the city corporation, were yet to be completed.
Contractors are causing inconvenience to the public, by not taking up works as per the contract agreement, corporators said. Members also demanded that speed breakers should be provided on the newly developed concrete roads, for the safety of pedestrians.
Corporators also brought to the notice of the mayor, that the branches of trees and debris are dumped by the side of the road, at many places in the city. MCC commissioner Akshy Sridhar directed officials to take necessary steps to clear it.
Deputy mayor Sumangala Rao was present.
